Cambodia’s hosting of SEA Games makes history and experiences

Cambodian leadership, organizing team, and support service providers have appreciated not only the applaudable and historic result of Cambodia’s 32nd SEA Games hosting but also new hands-on experiences from it.

Addressing a recent graduation of agriculture students, Prime Minister Hun Sen highlighted that Cambodia’s hosting of the SEA Games, especially its official opening, touched hearts and moved thousands witnessing the event into tears of happiness and pride.

The achievement of the whole games, he emphasized, belongs to all Cambodians and ASEAN nations.

In his remarks at the official closing of the SEA Games, Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense and Chairman of the Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC) emphasized that the hosting of the games demonstrated Cambodia’s civilization, generous heart, warm hospitality, and richness of cultures and talents.

At the same function, Dr. Thong Khon, the Minister of Tourism, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, and President of the SEA Games Federation Council, noted that Cambodia’s hosting of the games will be meaningful memories for all participating contingents as well as Cambodians and ASEAN peoples at large. for generations to come.

The three top leaders behind the success of the event echoed the hard work of all support service providers as well as volunteers during the games who stood as indispensable cells of the games and Cambodia providing heartfelt support and drawing new experiences.

Deployed as a local journalist from Apsara Media Service (AMS) to cover the games, Ms. Man Huy Leang reflected that the task made her more courageous, assertive, and actively useful for both her personal and professional life.

Dr. Chun Makara, a member of the medical team supporting the games, shared that the assignment gave him a good experience in serving a large event and further built his confidence in engaging in future service of a similar or larger scale.

Youth volunteers at the games viewed that social work helped enhance their team spirit and interpersonal communication skills.

The 32nd SEA Games officially opened on May 5 and concluded on May 17, 2023, with over 100,000 sports contingents from all ASEAN member countries and Timor-Leste participating in 579 disciplines of 36 sports categories without counting the demonstration sport (Teqball).

Cambodian athletes stood in third place for the most medals collected and fourth in ranking for the most gold medals bagged, after Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. Lim Nary – AKP
